Sommersonnwende 2026

Ein Bericht von Curandero, Ruben Orellana Neira

History shows us that, since the dawn of humankind, through archaeological, historical, and oral tradition evidence, humans were explorers. One of their earliest activities was gathering plant products, before hunting, which taught them the importance of light cycles and allowed them to understand time and space in a way very different from today. First, they learned that everything is based on cycles, with long days (summer) and short days (winter) being of great importance. We recognize this as the „SOLSTICE,“ meaning „sun standing still,“ and the benefits the universe provided were recognized, which is why it was given a sacred origin, becoming known as RELIGION, meaning „to reconnect.“ This is something our ancestors understood because they were always present in the moment, and these traditions still exist today in many cultures across different continents

In the Gregorian calendar this year 2026, the June 21st in the northern hemisphere is the moment when the greatest difference in duration between day and night occurs.

The celebration of the summer solstice comes from times before Christianity. In those times, people believed that plants that flowered or germinated on that solstice had more healing and healing powers than usual, which over time science has proven the benefits of the energy of summer light.

Longer days and more hours of sunshine bring us many benefits, not only for agriculture, but also for the body.

1.- Vitamin D for your bones and teeth.

Did you know that every time you tan your bones get stronger? Even though the sun will never reach your bones, UV rays help produce vitamin D in the skin. Remember that this vitamin is very important for bone mineralization, by promoting the absorption of calcium and phosphorus in the intestine and preventing their loss in the kidney.

Although most vitamins and minerals must be taken in food, in the case of vitamin D, the metabolism has an „ace up its sleeve“, since it is capable of manufacturing it in the skin when it has a precursor known as 7 -dehydrocholesterol (which comes from the „dreaded“ cholesterol) thanks to UV radiation from the sun.

5 or 10 minutes of sun, two or three times a week, are enough to recharge vitamin D stores. In our geographical area it is very easy to achieve, since we have sun all year round, but in countries with fewer hours of sun, there is a higher incidence of rickets in children and osteoporosis and osteomalacia in adults.

  1. Sunbathing improves the appearance of your skin.

If your problem is acne, the sun in moderation can help you; half an hour of sun a day is enough to improve the appearance of your skin. The key is, take it at the first time in the morning or late in the afternoon, when you are not in danger of burning and do not exceed 30 minutes.

Do not be scared if the first week you suffer a worsening, that means that the sun is causing a cleansing reaction, think that the skin has no other resource to eliminate fat and impurities than to expel what is left over in order to fix the problem.

After a week the skin will regain its balance and it will progressively heal. If not, you may have developed „summer acne“, a type of acne that is caused by the moisturizing ingredients in photoprotective creams.

Another skin disease that thrives in the sun is psoriasis. Lamps with specific UV frequencies are now used to help reduce diseased areas and remit the disease.

  1. The sun stimulates your defenses.

Have you noticed that in the winters after a vacation in the sun you have fewer flus and colds? It has been seen that the sun is capable of increasing the number of white blood cells or lymphocytes, the cells responsible for the first defense against infection.

  1. Balances cholesterol.

Do fats dissolve in the sun? Well, although it may sound strange, this is what happens, people who live in sunny climates have a lower incidence of cardiovascular diseases.

It has been proven that cholesterol levels are lower in summer, partly because UV light is necessary to metabolize cholesterol, and when we sunbathe it lowers cholesterol levels and prevents it from sticking to the arteries.

Another explanation is also that in the summer we move more and eat more seasonal fruits and vegetables.

  1. Sunbathing prevents cancer.

Did you know that there are cancers that appear more frequently in countries with fewer hours of sunshine? Mediterranean countries have a lower incidence of breast cancer, colon cancer, etc., versus the Nordic countries.

The explanation for this natural protection lies again in the protective effect of vitamin D against tumors. Recent studies have found that sunlight helps protect not only against breast and colon cancer, but also against other tumors such as ovary, bladder, uterus, stomach, lymphomas and prostate.

  1. Light favors the mood.

Why do you feel better after a sunbath? It seems that under sunlight it is easier to see the positive side of life and fatigue, depression and stress go away.

The explanation is that UV rays increase the production of a neurotransmitter related to the feeling of well-being: serotonin, which is also involved in the regulation of sleep, body temperature and sexual behavior.

It doesn’t take many scientific experiments to know that the weather affects emotions. We use the word „gray“ to designate a mood that coincides with cloudy days.

A few years ago, a psychological disorder known as seasonal affective disorder or SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) was described that affects 20% of the population and is characterized by the appearance of depressive symptoms in winter, which disappear when good weather arrives.

  1. Improves sleep quality.

Dream. Why do you sleep better and for fewer hours after sunbathing?

In summer, days get longer and it is easier for us to wake up rested despite having slept only a few hours. The explanation again is due to the effect of UV rays on another hormone: melatonin, which is responsible for many functions, including regulating sleep cycles.

Melatonin levels in the blood are highest at night, when there is no light. When there is light, melatonin decreases and we feel more awake and active. So, if you want to make the most of the hours of the day, there is nothing better than taking advantage of the awakening effects of sunlight, as if it were your morning coffee.

  1. Promotes sexual life.

Is your sex life more intense in summer? Without falling into summer clichés, the reality is that there is more sex in summer than in winter. The explanation lies in another hormone: testosterone. It has been proven that the sun taken in moderation increases testosterone levels in the blood, and this hormone is one of those responsible for sexual appetite.

In animals, the appearance of the mating season is regulated by the hours of sunshine, and although we do not go through periods of „heat“, it has been seen that male sperm is richer in sperm in the summer season, there must have some relationship.

In the world there are ceremonial constructions that have been made in order to connect with this energy for the benefit of the spirit and achieve the well-being. To today, traditions of holding ceremonies to open the senses and intonation exist and survive globalization, with this cosmic energy; which in some traditions continue to use entheogens, (misnamed psychotropic drugs) sounds, colors and aromas that help the mind and body align with the time of intense light.

From ancient sites to modern cities, the movement of the sun has inspired and intrigued healers, quack doctor, priests, architects, scientists for centuries. From tracking the sun’s movements to revealing hidden design features, there can be much more to a structure than meets the eye.

Among the monumental constructions that still call attention we have: NEWGRANGE, IRELAND; STONEHENGE, UNITED KINGDOM; THE KUKULCÁN TEMPLE, CHICHÉN ITZÁ, MEXICO; CHANKILLO, PERU; THE ANCIENT CITY OF PETRA, JORDAN; AHU AKIVI, EASTER ISLAND; SOLAR TOWER OF MACHUPICCHU, PERU; JANTAR MANTAR SOLAR OBSERVATORY, JAIPUR, INDIA; ABU SIMBEL, EGYPT; MANHATTANHENGE, USA.

There is an endless list of this type of constructions in the world that we often ignore or do not pay attention to, nor the teaching they can give us.

On this solstice, I invite you not only to think about the LIGHT, (photons for your soul and peace of mind) but that mentally try to feel this magical and healing energy, that will allow you to be well.
